What are Specific Learning Difficulties?
Specific Learning Difficulties are a group of disabilities whereby the individual is of average or even high intelligence, but has a difficulty in a particular area of learning. The following conditions are classified as Specific Learning Disabilities:
Dyslexia – difficulty in reading, writing and spelling
Dyscalculia – difficulty in mathematics
Irlen Syndrome (Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome) – visual perception disorder
Dyspraxia – difficulty in movement and coordination
Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder (ADHD) – inability to pay attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity
Autism – difficulty with social interaction, imagination and communication
Asperger’s Syndrome – difficulty with social interaction, pragmatic skills, cognitive patterns and restricted pattern of behaviour
Dysphasia – speech difficulty
